Fresh Perspectives in New York – METU Short Films Featured in the Liszt Institute Program

The Liszt Institute New York, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Hungary in New York, will host Fresh Perspectives: Shorts by the New Generation of Hungarian Filmmakers on October 15. The screening will showcase short films by young directors from Budapest Metropolitan University (METU), followed by a discussion moderated by METU representatives.


The program offers a glimpse into the worldview of a new generation of Hungarian filmmakers, exploring themes such as trust, change, the dynamics of human relationships, and the process of growing up.

Short Films and Synopses


  1. Lóránt Hevér – Úton (On the Road) (13 min)

A young manager’s life takes a dark turn when he realizes that a conspiracy is forming against him. In response, he does something he’s never done before—he takes revenge on his fiancée by picking up a mysterious hitchhiker.


  1. Vanda Fleisz – Lány az emeleten (Girl Upstairs) (13 min)

Within the walls of their shared home, twenty-something Janka realizes she has fallen into the monotony of her job. While her partner, Beni, seems content with their stagnant life, Janka’s longing for change is reignited when she gets the chance to switch jobs. On the morning of her interview, the couple drifts apart without fully grasping the weight of their choices or their inability to communicate openly.

After 32 years of marriage, a couple experiences the quiet dissolution of their bond.


  1. Ákos Laurinyecz – Adolescence (24:30 min)

Benjámin leads a relatively calm life, his only concern being the upcoming final exams. His school introduces a new initiative: a psychologist is assigned to help students with future planning. Her words gradually take root in Benjámin’s mind, prompting him to question his relationship with his mother. His friend Márk, instead of helping, reinforces the psychologist’s perspective. Slowly, Benjámin’s trust shifts from his mother to the persuasive yet unfamiliar woman.
