What is a TDK / MDK/ OMDK?
TDK is the abbreviation for the Scientific Student Conference.
A prospective TDK student has a scientific problem related to his/her field of study/field of discipline, based on practical experience; and then carries out planned activities in that field ofscience,i.e.research. The student research project is based on a joint activity between the student and the professor, in which the professor-as a recognized representative of the field, mentors the student from the outset. The results of the research are first presented by the student at the Institutional Scientific Student Conference which is evaluated and awarded bya jury of university lecturers.
Students in art programs will be invited to the MDK, i.e. Art Students' Conference to present their work. The aim of the Art Students Workshop is to encourage, support and evaluate the creative activities of students outside their compulsory schoolwork.
The best works are entered by the university in the biannual the OTDK/OMDK, the National Scientific/Art Students' Conference, where the student in the sections of the Art and Art Research Section, present their results in front of a jury consisting of prominent professors from the given fields from Hungarian universities within and beyond the borders of Hungary.
Why apply?
It is useful for students to work within the framework of a TDK/MDK, because it provides a new platform to deepen their knowledge in the different segments of their field. It supports their creative work, offers challenge for themselves and their creative work. If they are awarded a prize in the in-house competition, it gives them an advantage in scholarships abroad and applications for Master's(MA) and Doctoral (DLA, possibly PhD) studies. This is particularly true for those who also participate in the national competition and win a prize. Students may apply with any genre of work. It does not have to be related to their studies. However, professionalism should be kept in mind, that is everyone should use a medium they are comfortable with.
The presentation of entries for art and art mediation programs is limited to a maximum of one 15-minute presentation in pdf. or ppt. format, which will be projected at the in front of the committee. The original artwork and models will also be presented during the presentation.
For the art theory and design management programs, a written essay is presented in the form of a presentation. The formal requirements are the same as for the TDK essay.
The presentation or the essay will be evaluated on the basis of specific criteria by an independent jury. The order will be decided on the basis of the sum of the marks given by members of the jury for the projected presentation (or the paper in case of theoretical work) and the lecture.
How do I find a topic or a tutor?
The student should personally contact the professor whom he or she considers closest to his or her own interests, ideas, questions and plans.
The application form Jelentkezési lap, completed in Hungarian and English, together with the summary of the submitted work, must be uploaded to the Coospace platform by the deadline.
The contact persons are the TDT officers of the METU Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries:

Zsuzsanna Aranyosi (zaranyosi@metropolitan.hu)
Students are required to submit their presentations and artwork (a piece of writing describing the creative process, approx. 5000- 6000 characters). These should be sent to the chosen supervisor for review, and then after approval, uploaded to the dedicated Coospace platform. These will be presented by the student to the jury of the Institutional MDK round.
Installation of original works (books, paintings, graphics, photographs, installations, objects, etc.) must be agreed with the organizers.
