Tips for the semester from METU student Linh
2022-10-14

What is it like to study in Budapest, at Budapest Metropolitan University? What should students pay attention at the beginning of or during the academic year?
Here are METU Commerce and Marketing BSc student Linh’s experiences and tips!

September 12th is the time of the year when classes start rolling in again.
Public transport bustles with the sound of laughter, grunts, and yawns. Everyone needs to get to their location, and we are going to Budapest Metropolitan University (METU). With campuses scattered around Budapest, from Egressy to the newest Infopark, METU students cover the streets.

Students studying different majors go through different things. With a selection of over 20 programs available in METU, you can only wonder what it's like for each and every one of them. Having finally been able to attend classes on-site after 2 years of studying online, things have been different. Waking up early, getting dressed, commuting to university, and all the necessary steps of getting ready to be "at" university are relatively new. Forgetting how to interact with fellow peers after months of summer break wasn't surprising either. Though I'm glad, you're here, reading this because I think this would be helpful to you.
To all fellow students, fresh or not, here is a checklist that would help you begin and throughout the semester:
- Check your student ID sticker if it's up to date; if not, make sure to get it updated at SIC!
- P.S. Book an appointment first!
- Check your Coospace – this is METU’s online platform where you can find all useful materials for classes, student life and other useful information – and reset your password. New semester, new password!
- Download the Budapest Go app to be sure when your transport is arriving to get to classes on time.
- Join as many METU Clubs as possible! You'll meet many other students who share the same interest as you. Here are some, but there are many more!
- - Art Club
- - Creative Expression Club
- - Movie & Cinema Club
- - Music Club
- - Photography Club
- - Traveling Club
- There's a section called "Events for International Students" on Coospace. Be sure to check them out to see their upcoming trips.
- If you're into sports, METU Sport provides that for you. From yoga to volleyball and more, you can sign up for this on your Coospace main page.
- Individual study schedule for students
- - Talk or message your respective lecturers to discuss what you need to do to fulfill the course requirements!
- - Make sure to block some time for yourself to study the subject so you won't lag behind.
- To sweet students submitting their thesis this semester, these are important dates to remember.
- - Submit your thesis by October 20th in case of December final examination registration.
- - Submit your thesis by November 23rd in case of January final examination registration.
- - Don't forget to submit a final examination request on Neptun before October 1st!
- Understand the room lettering for each campus. You can find the guide for this made for students on Coospace, which will definitely make it easy for you not to get lost on campus! :)
- Hopefully, this guide will be helpful for you and the new adventures that await you the next months! Best of wishes to you and your endeavors and see you again soon!
